Looking for a unique spiritual experience in Brittany? The Grande Trom\u00e9nie de Locronan is an extraordinary pilgrimage that only takes place every six years. <\/p>\n

What is the Grande Trom\u00e9nie?<\/h3>\n

The Grande Trom\u00e9nie is first and foremost a sacred procession celebrating the memory of Saint Ronan, Locronan’s patron saint. The procession follows a 12-kilometre route, punctuated by 12 stations adorned with granite crosses and small huts housing precious statues of saints. These sculptures temporarily leave their respective churches to join in the fervor of the participants. <\/p>\n

Legend has it that if you don’t perform the Trom\u00e9nie while you’re alive, you’ll have to do it after your death, advancing only by the length of your coffin each day. So it’s best to seize the opportunity without delay! <\/p>\n

A journey with Celtic roots<\/h4>\n

Although Trom\u00e9nie is now a religious celebration, many historians believe it has its roots in Celtic traditions.<\/p>\n

If you look at the layout of the 12 km route, it’s easy to see why. Some experts suggest that the path follows the contours of an ancient “nemeton”, a sacred space where Celtic druids performed their rituals. It would even seem that the circuit, divided into twelve parts, evokes the twelve months of the Celtic year. <\/p>\n

Where and when?<\/h4>\n

The next edition of the Grande Trom\u00e9nie is scheduled for 20231. This is a rare opportunity not to be missed, as it only takes place once every six years. The starting and finishing point is the town center of Locronan<\/a>, a village classified as one of the most beautiful in France, offering a picturesque and enchanting setting. <\/p>\n

The Grande Trom\u00e9nie de Locronan in practice<\/h3>\n

The Trom\u00e9nie route, open only during the event, is carefully prepared to welcome the procession. The fields are cleared, the paths embellished, and every effort is made to ensure that the route is accessible to the thousands of participants. This sacred path crosses the Porzay plain and the Prieur\u00e9 mountain, offering a wide variety of landscapes. <\/p>\n

It remains open to all, day and night, for a week.<\/p>\n

Along the way, you’ll discover the Porzay plain, the climb to Plas-ar-C’horn (where pilgrims can take a break), and other key stages that evoke the area’s religious and legendary past.<\/p>\n

At the summit, the landscape embraces the Bay of Douarnenez, the Menez-Hom and, in the distance, the points of La Ch\u00e8vre and Le Raz, offering a typically Breton panorama.<\/p>\n
